I’ve been fortunate to work with a wide range of athletes over the years, but I’ve found that I have a special connection to female athletes and addressing the unique training needs that we encounter. I enjoying helping women overcome the “stuck” periods in their training – when other approaches are failing to meet your goals or you find yourself in a position that requires a specialized approach (pregnancy, postpartum, injury, etc.). By focusing on this  specific demographic, I can fine-tune your program to meet both your current needs and help you achieve your performance goals. Together we will get you back to your preferred activity or sports in a safe and effective way that will keep you in the game instead of warming the bench.

Rehabilitation and Movement Session

Whether you’ve just had your baby and are look in reclaim your pre-pregnancy strength, or have been sidelined with an injury unrelated to birth, I can help return you to the activities you love. I incorporate a variety of corrective methods into your program, depending on your unique needs. These include Restorative Exercise™, gait/biomechanics assessment and retraining, manual therapy, and sports-specific conditioning. We focus on the 4 “R”s of core strength to properly condition your body and safely return you to the sports that you love.

Transition from Rehab to Sport

If you’ve been seeing a physical therapist, chiropractor, or other rehab specialist and are looking to make the transition from your rehabilitation program to sports training, let me help build that bridge. I collaborate with your current therapist to help build a program that will safely prepare you for a progressive return to sport, while still ensuring the safety of your healing injury. Athletic Trainers are unique in that we have training in injury evaluation, rehabilitation, and sports-specific conditioning, which means that I understand how to balance your need to stay conditioned for your sports and your body’s need to heal. By working together, using both nutrition and training techniques, we can make sure that you fully recover from your injury, while maintaining a level of conditioning that allows you a faster return to play than rehabilitation alone.

 

Alignment for Prevention & Performance Sessions

Your alignment and how you move your body directly affect your performance in sport. If you are plagued by injury or feeling that you’re not meeting your performance goals, the mechanics of your body could be to blame. You see, our bodies quickly learn common movement patterns and adapt to make these easy to perform – even if they are not in the best interest of our joints and muscles. Repetitive training in these patterns, whether from sports conditioning or other lifestyle factors, can hinder our muscles’ ability to fully engage, cause misalignment in our joints, and eventually lead to chronic injury, such as tendinitis, bursitis, strains, and tears. Our sessions will begin by looking at your general alignment, posture, and mobility, and exploring your current training. Adding simple changes to how you’re moving can mean big changes to your performance and ability to stay in the game.

My goal is to provide a program that can be incorporated into your daily training schedule, and only assess you as changes are needed. Usually no more than 3 session are needed to get you on a path to better performance and pain-free training.

 

Fitness Training and Nutrition Coaching

Every woman has an inner athlete, but may not be looking at competitive sports as an outlet. My goal is to help you “train” for an activity that you find joy in performing, and aren’t dragging yourself to do. This could be weight lifting, natural movement work, hiking, walking, riding a bike, or even simply engaging in activities with your kids. I also understand that our interests change as the seasons of our lives change, or even just because we get bored.

In these sessions, we work together on developing performance and health goals. I understand that for some women, these goals will also include weight loss. While I prefer not to make weight loss a primary goal, we will design a movement and nutrition program that will encourage fat loss and energy gain simply in our training. There are no “bad” foods in my book, but rather foods that aid us in reaching our goals better than others. I don’t use cookie-cutter programs or one-size-fits-all plans. When you train with me, you get no judgement or discomfort, but instead a program that you can enjoy doing and sticking to!
